It’s fair to say Emily & Matt decided to take things in a more traditional direction for their Special day. Starting things up at home, tying the knot in the gorgeous St. Mary’s Church in Beighton and then finishing up in lush meadowland at the Aston Hall hotel. Full day shoots like these are a wonderful opportunity to tell a story, documenting all the nerves and excitement of getting ready, to the pure elation of walking out the ceremony together as newlyweds.
Two hours before the ceremony was due to start, I had the pleasure of shooting at the home of the parents of the bride, where everyone was getting ready, so close to the ceremony it was lovely walking into such a warm and friendly atmosphere. The excitement was palpable, and It shows in every frame. Matt & Emily are a lovely pair with great taste, as evident in the ceremony at St Marys, tying the knot in a church really gives things that traditional look, a pleasure to shoot in.
The sun beat down wonderfully on the stone of St Mary’s, something that makes days like these that extra bit special. Built in the 12th century, the church offers a stoic, classic, gothic look, perfect for that traditional wedding aesthetic. After the touching ceremony proceedings moved on seamlessly to the reception at Aston Hall, a 16th century treasure updated with a modern design, found just outside of Sheffield, the hotel offers a Luxury house, a gym and varies outdoor activities. Photographing here was a joy as it’s right on the doorstep of the peak district, making for a gorgeous rural backdrop.
Being sticklers for detail we wanted to capture every important moment and the reception presented plenty of those, everything from the speeches to the cutting of the cake had such a sense of unity and togetherness to them. Some stunning shots in the surrounding fields, set against a dramatic sunset certainly gave things a sense of scope to complement these more candid moments.
The events staff really pulled it out the bag for Matt and Emily as things seemed to off without a hitch at Aston Hall Hotel, everyone knows weddings can be a stressful affair but the staff conducted themselves excellently and in doing so made things as leisurely an experience as possible for the bride and groom. As the sun came down, we managed to get some fun shots with some sparklers, using a long exposure time, you can create some great shapes and patterns with the sparkler flares, a giants love heart set against the setting sun rounded things off perfectly.
An absolute pleasure to shoot and a very special day all round, one I know Matt and Emily won’t have been disappointed by, from all of us good luck on your new journey together.
